There has apparently been a good bit of confusion over a recent show on the Discovery Channel called Mermaids: The Body Found. So much confusion in fact the government had to step in.

The examiner.com today detailed how many Americans seem to have misunderstood the film.

But it may not be their fault, completely. Perhaps because it was shot documentary-style and because the film claimed to “be based on some real events”.

Nonetheless, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) quickly stepped in and squashed any thought that the body of a mermaid was actually found.

According to fishnewseu.com, NOAA released a statement saying, “no evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found”.

The agency has released statement about other unexplained phenomena in the past, including the Bermuda Triangle and the Lost City of Atlantis.
