Jason Pinardo isn't just a South Jersey native with ties to Hollywood.  He happens to be a close friend of mine, someone I've know since I was 10.  Jason's interest in film has lead to producing a new film called Wicked Blood starring Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, The Call) and James Purefoy (The Following).  I recently chatted with Jason about his role in the exciting movie project.

Pinardo grew up in Gloucester Township, attending C.W. Lewis Middle School in Blackwood with me.  We would both go on to attend Paul VI High School and later Temple University in Philadelphia.  I watched Jason make his way through the film/TV school while I focused on broadcasting.  Jason's commitment to film making, even at a young age, was evident.  Jason has been navigating the tough world of entertainment for a long time, where breakthroughs are hard to come by.  But he mastered finding a worthy script.  Even more challenging was the painstaking task of raising funds to get Wicked Blood made.  But the beauty of the end result is that through word of mouth, he and director Mark Young were able to sway an impressive cast of actors to participate.

Shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Wicked Blood is the story of Hannah Lee Baker (Abigail Breslin).  Hannah is a bright teenager trapped in the dark Southern underworld of violence, guns, meth labs and vicious biker gangs. Her only refuge?  Chess.

She lives with her older sister Amber and meth-addicted Uncle Donny. All live in fear of Uncle Frank Stinson who, along with a psychotic younger brother, runs an illegal family business.

Things spiral quickly out of control when Amber falls in love with Wild Bill (James Purefoy), a meth trafficker at war with Frank. Hannah realizes the only way to save her family is by cleverly pitting one pawn against another in a cunning game of chess.

Wicked Blood, also starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids), Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), and Jake Busey (Contact), is expected to be available same day as release on your local cable system and Netflix on March 4th.
