CBS News has just come out with a report that more and more people are starting to use customized Snapchat geofilters for funerals to honor the deceased. Because we need more occasions to take selfies.

So here's how it works: To get your own geofilter, you can either hire a third party to create a custom one for you or create one directly through Snapchat. You're charged depending on how big you want your geofence (geographical area) to be, how long you want it to be the active, and the design of the filter itself. Of course, you can also create your own geofilters for more joyous occasions (weddings, birthdays, graduation, etc.). The concept itself is actually pretty cool and they make for fun Snapchat stories.

The CBS story told of a woman who encouraged the guests at her brother's funeral service to snap a picture and swipe to discover the custom geofilter she had made for the occasion. Selfies commenced and it lifted the mood in room.

Call me old fashioned, but to me this sounds pretty excessive. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Snapchat and I use it quite often. I enjoy a nice colorful geofilter as much as the next guy. But seriously, have people no shame in banging out a selfie for the sake of a customized geofilter in the middle of a funeral/wake?

Maybe there's a case to be made for this. What do you think? Leave us a comment down below!
