It feels like yesterday when we learned the horrific news that Michael Vick was running a dog fighting ring....

It seems even more like yesterday when we learned that 'Vick was going to be an Eagle'.

I remember the uproar and the 'Hide your beagle, Vick's an Eagle' T-shirts.  (An ex-girlfriend of mine bought me that shirt, I think it's still balled up in the corner of my closet)

Yesterday, the Eagles QB and convicted dog killer released a statement...

I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet. As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change."  (NBC10)

I personally feel that he will be dealing with the consequences for the rest of his life.  While he may be recently remembered for his numerous fumbles last week, you're eventually going to be bring up his horrible past.  Never forgetting, and always putting his name next something so disgusting, could be a worse punishment than jail time.

On one hand, you can say that Vick has 'learned his lesson' and he is moving on with his life.  Then again, Vick owning a dog could rub some people the wrong way.

What do you think?
