Attention all beachgoers: expect to be getting something extra when you purchase your Longport beach tag.

Shore News Today reports, Longport Beach will be distributing UV wristbands when beachgoers buy their beach tag this summer. The clear rubber wristband will change color in the sun to indicate when UV rays are present.

The wristband, available at Longport Borough Hall starting mid-April, is meant to create awareness for melanoma, that commonly affect people between 25-29 years-old.

So how does it change color?

Each bracelet has a special powder that reacts to ultraviolet rays that turns the bracelet purple when UV rays are detected...even on cloudy days!

Hopefully this reminds beachgoers to be wary of the effects UV rays can have on the skin. Also just a reminder that the bracelet is not meant to be a signal of when to reapply sunscreen. It's literally just for people to be more conscious of UV ray presence.

Longport is also the first beach in New Jersey to do this according to the article, so way to go!
