Additional Information

The South Jersey Field of Dreams Park was developed to provide physically and mentally challenged youngsters with opportunities to realize their dreams of being part of a team, enjoying sports and playing games while family members and friends cheered for them. Over the past 11 years, nearly 400 youngsters have become athletes of the FOD family.

Since the beginning of the United States, 15,433 men and women from New Jersey have not had the opportunity to realize all of their dreams when they made the ultimate sacrifice for our country as members of our armed services.

To demonstrate the scope of the sacrifices and with a profound sense of respect for the men and women who have served this country, the South Jersey Field of Dreams will create a "Field of flags" at the Park. Starting on May15, 1000 flags will be put in place by team members, families, civic groups, students and Veterans organizations with the total on 15,433 flags, symbolizing each veteran who never realized their dreams on display for citizens who wish to pay their respects.

The final flags will be placed by three members of the SJFOD Board of Trustees who are Veterans: Barry Hackett, Larry McCarty and Joe Brown during a ceremony following the Absecon Memorial Day Parade on the 25th at 11:30. The Field of Flags will remain in place until May 28th.

The Field of Flags is not a fund-raising project. Tax deductible donations will be used to purchase the flags and in support of an on-going effort to establish a Veteran's Museum in the area. Every dollar donated will purchse five flags.
