A 76-year-old woman reportedly lost control of her sedan Sunday in Egg Harbor Twp., resulting in serious injury.

The unidentified woman was attempting to exit Village Grande onto Mill Rd. approximately 8 a.m. when she lost control of her 2011 Toyota Avalon, crossing the median hitting a traffic sign and bushes, NBC40.net reports. Police say the vehicle then swerved off the Mill Rd., slammed into a vinyl fence and a tree.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken by a rescue squad to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus.

Police believe a medical issue caused the driver to crash. Traffic was detoured for nearly two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
