While we are heading towards day 40 of the State shutdown, I thought we'd take some time to learn a little about our State.

Here are some very random facts about New Jersey. Check out this list

1. The first WaWa opened in New Jersey in 1968 in Vineland.

2. Thomas Alva Edison invented the lightbulb in 1879 in New Jersey in Menlo Park

3. The oldest road in America, the King's Highway, passes through New Jersey. Built 1650 - 1735 .... much of King's Highway became Roue 1.

4. Lake Hopatcong  is the largest fresh water lake in New Jersey. Lake Hopatcong measures 4 square miles in area.

5. The oldest city in New Jersey is Gloucester City, founded in 1623.

6. The oldest county in New Jersey, Burlington County. Founded in 1677 as part of William Penn's "West Jersey" a Quaker settlement.

7. Princeton University is New Jersey's oldest college, established in 1746.

8. The New Jersey State Fruit is the Blueberry. In 2003 4th graders from Veteran's Memorial Elementary School in Brick campaigned to make the blueberry the fruit of New Jersey.

9. The longest cave in New Jersey is "Crooked Swamp Cave" in Lafayette Township in Sussex County (18 acres)

10. New Jersey's first license plate , circa 1903, was black with white letters/numbers
