It’s the First Date, Who Pays?

On a British reality dating show, First Dates,  Thursday night's episode took things to a whole other level in the dating world causing a little debate...

In the episode, a date between 30-year-old manager Elle and 38-year-old fireman Mark, was going well  until right at the very end of the date when it came time to finally pay for the bill, and things went very awkward, very fast.

Elle immediately gave the bill to her date, to which he wondered why she gave the bill to him. She responded saying, "Of course I'm giving it to you. I never pay on dates, why would I?" Uh oh.

Elle eventually put some money towards the bill, and needless to say the date went sour after. But it has sparked my curiosity, who pays on the first date? Is it up to the man? Does it depend on who invited who? Is it alright for women to pay?
