Where Is The Thousand Pound Shark That Was Near New Jersey In May?

It wasn't even technically summer yet, and we were already talking about a huge shark off the New Jersey coast. Now that it's shark week, it's time for us to get an update.

In early May of this year, a shark that was touted as "one of the biggest in the world" in publications all over the world, pinged off the New Jersey coast, and we all took notice.

His name is Ironbound, and he weighs in at nearly 1000 lbs. (998 to be exact according to Ocearch). We don't often invite sharks to our beach parties here at the Jersey Shore, let alone a huge one like Ironbound.

So, now that it's shark week, don't you think you'd like to know where this super-sized shark has been hanging out lately. or to be more accurate, let's just make sure he's not around here.

We can't give you an update in the past week since Ocearch hasn't received a ping from Ironbound in that time, but the last ping they did get was a week ago.

Ready for some good news, at least for us? The last Ironbound ping was on July 20th, and it was just south of Newfoundland. Not great news for Newfoundland, but excellent news for the Jersey Shore.

Sharks are amazing creatures and I am all for celebrating them. But let's be honest, the greater the distance between them and me, the happier and more robust my celebration will be.
