First McDonald's. And now Walmart? Pretty soon we may never have to leave our homes.

The big box retailer announced last week that it's been testing a home delivery service, having Walmart employees drop off orders at customers' homes after their shifts.

Walmart already provides online shoppers with discounted store pickup and two-day shipping, but the home delivery would allow customers to get their goods within hours or a day without the extra cost for shipping.

The retailer has been testing the service for the past month at just three of its 4,700 stores — and two of them are in New Jersey.

But Walmart isn't telling which ones.

"We’re not sharing a lot of details about the test – including specific store locations — given that it’s only started within the last month or so," spokesman Ravi Jariwala told New Jersey 101.5.

Walmart President and CEO Marc Lore said the service could be a game-changer in the age of online shopping and Amazon, which is expanding its existing unmanned drone-delivery service.

"Not only can this cut shipping costs and get packages to their final destinations faster and more efficiently, it creates a special win-win-win for customers, associates and the business," he said.

The employees who make the deliveries earn extra cash and it's voluntary.
