Van Drew Requests State of Emergency Declaration from Murphy
Congressman Van Drew has requested a state of emergency declaration in response to severe weather in South Jersey Monday.
Throughout the day Monday, wind gusts in excess of 70 MPH caused widespread damage across South Jersey, including damage to buildings in Cape May County and a gas station roof collapse in Egg Harbor Township.
In a press release, Congressman Jeff Van Drew said, "Over the last few hours, storms and powerful winds have damaged huge areas of South Jersey, while we are in the midst of a public health crisis. I am asking the Governor to declare an immediate State of Emergency to help our community rebuild. We need the help now more than ever."
A state of emergency must be declared for the areas impacted to have access to funds, according to Van Drew.
As of Monday evening, Gov. Murphy's office has not commented on the request.
