Urban Outfitters Asking Employees to Work for Free
As if! The popular retail chain Urban Outfitters is asking employees to volunteer to work six hour shifts on weekend ahead of the holiday shopping season.
This is insane. Oh, sure! I'll give up MY free time to volunteer for a non-community event. Um, that's not how it works in this country. Have you shopped at Urban Outfitters? A t-shirt could run you $70. But they want employees to give up their weekends to work for free, especially during the holidays when time with family and friends away from your vocation is hard to come by anyway? I'm scratching my head.
In an email to employees, URBN, which also owns Free People and Anthropologie requests:.
“URBN is seeking weekend volunteers to help out at our fulfillment center in Gap, PA. October will be the busiest month yet for the center, and we need additional helping hands to ensure the timely shipment of orders. As a volunteer, you will work side by side with your GFC colleagues to help pick, pack and ship orders for our wholesale and direct customers.”
URBN seeks to fill two six-hour shifts each day between October 17 and October 31, according to Philly.com. The company says it will provide interested employees with transportation to and from the packing facility.
