On Monday (June 12th) a swimmer was pulled from a quarry in Hamilton Township.

According to NJ.com, a man was swimming in a quarry at the end of Thelma Avenue in Mays Landing when he had drowned on Monday.

Lenyn Mercedes-Payamps, 23 of Pleasantville, was identified as the swimmer.

According to witnesses, Payamps was attempting swimming out to a sandbar. A unnamed witness tried to rescue Payamps.

He was pulled from the water around 9:30pm Monday night after a 3 hour search.

Both the Hamilton Township Fire Department's Dive Team and the Brigantine Fire Department's Dive Team were both on the scene. Hamilton Township Police arrived on scene around 6:15pm.

State Police, United States Coast Guard, Township of Hamilton Emergency Management, AlantiCare Paramedics, and Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad were also on scene. As was Mays Landing, Richland, Collings Lakes, Laureldale, and Brigantine Fire Departments.
