South Toms River, NJ Police To Parents: ‘Talk To Kids About Danger Of Walking On Ice’
The South Toms River Police Department has issued a Safety Warning to all parents.
A child who was wandering on the ice at the Beach Club on Brookforest Drive fell through and gave everyone a major scare.
There is no word on the status of the child just yet but the police want parents to use this incident as a chance to talk to their own kids.
"Please talk to your children about the dangers of walking on ice," is written in the South Toms River Police Department's Facebook Post.
***SAFETY WARNING TO PARENTS***
We received a report of a child who broke through the ice at the Beach Club on Brookforest Drive. Please talk to your children about the dangers of walking on ice.
Listen....kids are troublemakers. I get it.
All you have to do is take your eyes off of them for two seconds and BOOM...they've found trouble.
So sit down with our kids and try to instill in their minds that they should never walk on ice that is not at an ice skating rink or guarded.
To put it into perspective, ice must be at least 4 inches thick to be considered "safe" to walk on. That is the thickness ice fishers use in those extremely arctic climates which means that if there is ice at the Jersey Shore, it is probably far from being 4 inches thick.
You and I both know that it is not even the fall that is the worst part if a disaster like this would to occur....it would be the freezing cold waters that are down below.
