We still can't pump our own gas in New Jersey, but we can go to even more places and handle our payment transactions all by ourselves.

Sunday, I noticed that the Wawa on the Black Horse Pike at Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township had installed self-pay machines. ("Installed" sounds a little fancier than it looks. They really just set them on the counter of the check-out lane and plugged them in.)

We've seen it at other retailers like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and Lowes, and at grocery stores like Shoprite, but this is the first time I've seen this at a Wawa. It has been available at the two Royal Farms locations in Egg Harbor Township.

With self-pay, you don't have to wait in line for a cashier, you can just bop up and check yourself out - as long as your not paying cash. It's a credit or debit card - or, mobile pay only. Also, you can't make tobacco purchases, pay for fuel, or purchase gift cards.

I did not use the self-pay option, as I was in the store at 4:30 am, and there was no line at the cashier.

We're eager to hear about your self-pay experiences at Wawa!
