Report: Warner Bros. Picks Robert Pattinson As Its Next Batman
While reports weeks ago claimed Robert Pattinson was the final choice to replace Ben Affleck as the next movie Batman, according to Deadline, that decision was delayed for one final round of screen tests where Pattinson faced off against actor Nicholas Holt. But apparently the decision is now final (pending signing a contract, of course), and the next Batman will be Robert Battinson.
More, via Deadline:
Pattinson has been considered a frontrunner because the filmmaker liked him, but the studio was torn between him and Nicholas Hoult, and wanted both of the actors on tape because this is such a big decision on a cornerstone Warner Bros DC franchise. Those meetings happened yesterday, I’m told, and the decision was made. Hoult, who starred in Tolkien and is about to reprise in the latest X-Men: First Class film Dark Phoenix, was impressive, but Pattinson will be the guy and negotiations will get underway any moment.
The next Bat-film, tentatively titled The Batman, will come from director Matt Reeves, who previously made the last two Planet of the Apes movies, along with Cloverfield and the teen vampire movie Let Me In. Unlike Affleck’s Batman, who was supposed to be an older man near the end of his crimefighting career, RBattz will be a younger man at the early stages of his superheroing. So it will almost be like a movie about how Batman begins. Say, that’s a good title for a movie! What took them so long to think of this idea?
The Batman is due in theaters on June 25, 2021.
