Federal authorities say a man from Passaic County admitted producing images of child sexual abuse and enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct online.

According to U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger's office, 27-year-old Jose Minaya of Paterson pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of production of child pornography and one count of online enticement.

In July 2019, Minaya used a web-based application to engage a child in a sexually explicit conversation online. Minaya persuaded the child to take sexually explicit photographs of the child and send them to him.

Minaya was arrested at his home in May 2020, at which time agents seized multiple electronic devices.

A further investigation revealed that "Minaya had used another application to entice an additional minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct."

The charge of production of child pornography carries a prison term of 15 to 30 years. The charge of online enticement carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, up to life. Each charge carries a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 9th.
