Crew members also reportedly experienced illness on the flight.

A JetBlue airplane carrying passengers bound for the Dominican Republic was diverted to JFK Airport in New York soon after departing Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey Sunday.

According to Patch.com, a 'handful' of passengers and crew aboard Flight 1203 were feeling sick, and were unable to make it to their destination in San Domingo.

No reason for the illness has been given, but JetBlue shot down rumors that it was due to an 'unusual odor' or fumes in the cabin.

Perhaps those passengers were saved from a fate much worse, considering nearly a dozen vacationers have mysteriously died in the Dominican in the last few months.
