New Jersey Brewery Introduces Its Very Own Pork Roll Beer
New Jersey's largest craft brewer, Flying Fish, releases three new limited edition flavors to their "Exit" series. One of them is made with everyone's favorite, pork roll.
The Cherry Hill brewery celebrated its 20th anniversary on Thursday by introducing Exit 7 Pork Roll Porter as a tribute to New Jersey state.
NJ.com describes this 7.5% ABV beer as: "a dark brown caramelly porter with a cocoa aroma and hints of chocolate, maple, toasted nuts and spice."
It almost seems like Flying Fish may have settle the pork roll vs. Taylor Ham debate, but it turns out both names were considered! Brewery manager, Barry Holsten, tells NJ.com "Exit 7A Taylor Ham Porter," was considered, there just wasn't enough time to create it.
Also an added fun fact: real pork roll was actually used in brewing this beer - 30 pounds to be exact!
Personally it doesn't seem appetizing to have pork roll INSIDE my beer, or even pork roll flavored. Then again, I typically don't prefer chocolate beer...or meaty beer.
So I asked Mike, the beer expert, if he would try it. His response?: "I like beer. I like pork roll. So I'll try it."
Hmmmm, looks like we're going to be making a trip to Flying Fish Brewery!
