Lady Gaga Honored at GLAAD Awards
When Lady Gaga declared “No matter gay, straight or bi / Lesbian transgendered life” in her anthem ‘Born This Way,’ the LBGT community took those words to heart. Last night (March 24), Gaga nabbed the ‘Outstanding Music Award’ honor for the album of the same name at the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards, which were held in New York City.
Congrats to Gaga on the big win, since it represents something bigger than a pat on the back from the music industry. Since this award is bestowed by a media watchdog group and honors her music on a level beyond commercial and critical, it’s a big deal.
Right now, Gaga is one of the biggest gay icons in music, beloved by little monsters of all orientations, but last night, GLAAD patted her on the back for her efforts for and support of the community. Surely this award has to be one that means a little more to her, given her commitment to gay rights.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 27 of the 35 total awards were handed out last night. The remaining nods will be issued at a ceremony in Los Angeles on April 21 and at a fete in San Francisco on June 2.
Congrats Gaga!
