James Corden Joins the All-Female Heist Caper ‘Ocean’s Eight’
When they’re not hanging out in city parks wearing cool outfits and plotting fashionably, the cast of the all-female Ocean’s movie Ocean’s Eight is casting around for new members. While the movie’s been in production for some time, it’s just added James Corden in a supporting role.
According to Deadline, Corden’s character is “an insurance investigator who grows suspicious” of the group of ladies who keep meeting in odd locations to discuss secret plans. Deadline describes the role as relatively minor, so his character is probably more for comedic purposes and not going to be in Sandra Bullock’s way for any long stretch of time. Corden certainly has that sort of sweet but bumbling comic relief characterization down — one of his first starring turns was as a stuck in a rut office worker in a one-off Doctor Who episode.
Corden’s been in high demand lately, juggling Late Late Show hosting duties with voiceover work in Trolls and the Emoji Movie, as well as signing on for the live-action Peter Rabbit. Most likely it’s all a long game kind of plan to recruit more “Carpool Karaoke” guest stars. Which, actually, is just the kind of savvy Bullock and her team of thieves might be looking for.
Ocean’s Eight is directed by Gary Ross, also stars Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, and Helena Bonham Carter.
