Witnesses say man decapitated seagull on North Wildwood, NJ, boardwalk: Police
A Cape May man has been arrested after witnesses say he allegedly decapitated a seagull on the North Wildwood boardwalk earlier this month.
The North Wildwood Police Department says their officers were called to Morey's Pier on the 2500 block of the Boardwalk on Saturday, July 6th.
According to authorities, witnesses at the scene reported that a man, later identified as 29-year-old Franklin Zeigler, had decapitated a seagull.
During an unrelated investigation, police say Zeigler was angry and uncooperative with officers, which resulted in disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges being filed against him.
Additional police work, including statements allegedly made by Zeigler on-scene as well as available photographs and witness statements, resulted in him being charged with third-degree animal cruelty.
Zeigler was placed on a summons on the above charges per bail reform and released pending a future court date.
The North Wildwood Police Department asks that anyone who has more information about this case call (609) 522-2411.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
