Almost everyone knows that since last night, that a large section of Atlantic City has lost electrical power.

However, most don’t know why.

A raccoon is the culprit.

The raccoon made its way into a switch gear and knocked out what is known as “The Ontario Grid.”

When you see some of Atlantic City in the dark and others with lights burning brightly … it’s because there are other grids that remain unaffected by the raccoon misadventure.

I first learned about the widespread Atlantic City electrical power outrage from Atlantic City Board of education Member-Elect, Ron Bailey.

It was at 11:36 p.m. last ight.

Bailey is made in the mold of Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt … Bailey seems to be everywhere.

Bailey shared the following with me:

”Hi Harry sorry to bother so late just wanted to send this to you currently in Atlantic City there's a power outage on Atlantic and Pacific avenue that goes from Virginia avenue around the area of the hard Rock casino all the way down to Georgia avenue here are a couple pictures the police are currently answering multiple calls fire departments running around answering fire alarm calls in the area,” wrote Bailey.

Ron Bailey shared the following photos to give you an idea of how dark it is:

The electrical power is still out on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

It is remarkable how much damage a tiny raccoon can cause.

The Atlantic City Police Department has done a phenomenal job, directing traffic amidst all of the chaos created by the power outrage.

We’ll keep you posted.
