Authorities say a suicidal man from Brooklyn who was wanted for attempted murder was taken into custody in Atlantic City earlier this week.

The Atlantic City Police Department says one of their officers was stopped by a boardwalk ambassador around 4:45 Tuesday afternoon about a man who appeared to be in distress.

That man, identified as 36-year-old Darren Brathwaite, was seen going into the ocean at Hartford Avenue. Police say he appeared distraught and refused to get out of the water.

With assistance from additional responding officers and EMS personnel, Brathwaite was persuaded to exit the water and walk to the shoreline where he was met by Officer Rebecca Seabrook and EMS personnel.

Brathwaite was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for evaluation.

A brief investigation revealed that Brathwaite was involved in a domestic violence incident in Brooklyn and was wanted for attempted murder.
