The Egg Harbor Township Police Department says their officers responded to CVS on Tilton Road Sunday for a report of a shoplifting in progress.

Sgt. Brett Fair was the first to arrive and he confronted the suspect as he exited the store.

While waiting for more patrol units to arrive, the accused ran to his vehicle in the parking lot, which was still running. Sgt. Fair attempted to detain the male but was pinned between the open door of his vehicle and the door frame as the accused sped away. Sgt. Fair was able to free himself from the vehicle after a brief moment and fell into a grassy area of the parking lot.

A woman who was with the suspect remained at the store and was taken into custody for shoplifting.

The suspect, identified as Anthony Colon, has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, eluding arrest, resisting arrest, and other related charges. He has not yet been arrested.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Egg Harbor Township Police Department at (609) 927-5200.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
