Yet another great radio broadcasting legend has left us.

He was a WIBBAGE, WIBG 99 “Good Guy” and “The Last Boss Jock hired on Famous 56, WFIL.

We have just learned the news that Bob Charger has died.

Charger was a high respected radio broadcaster, music director, program director, television weather man and game show host for radio stations in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Delaware

Charger did it all and was incredibly well liked by his fellow colleagues and those who worked for other radio stations.

Veteran Philadelphia television and radio mainstay, Jason Lee Sklar wrote the following about his mentor:

Typing this with tears in my eyes. My good friend of 30+ years and one of my early mentors, Bob Charger, has passed away. I met Bob in 1992 as an intern at Jerry Blavat 's radio station, 1540 WPGR. Bob knew my dream was to be on radio and TV. He took me under his wing and taught me the business. He let me run the board during his shows. And when I was ready, he championed my cause to get me on the air. It worked, and the rest is history. I owe so much to that man, and it breaks my heart to know he isn't with us anymore. The guy was one of the most talented broadcasters I have ever been around, but an even better human being. RIP my friend. Love you man.

The Charlie Gracie Rock Hall Facebook page wrote the following:

HEARTBROKEN,

VETERAN PHILLY RADIO & TV BROADCASTER BOB CHARGER HAS PASSED.

We received the sad news late last evening. As many of you know, Bob was a dear friend. He was the consummate professional who enjoyed a decades long career in the Philly Metro Region and beyond. More importantly, Bob brought character and integrity to his industry— not always a given. He was a gentleman and a man of faith. Bob emceed several Charlie Gracie shows through the years. He also hosted the Charlie Gracie Memorial Tribute held by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia in 2003. Bob also appeared with his stellar radio compadre, Harvey Holiday (WOGL-FM 98) at Charlie's huge public life celebration at the Media Theater last summer. His wealth of knowledge related to pop music and the story behind the hits...and misses was staggering!

You can readily tell the measure of the man by the way his colleagues and competitors are remembering Bob Charger today.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Charger at numerous Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia luncheons and dinners.

Bob Charger was as classy an individual as you will ever have the privilege to know.

Rest in Peace Bob.
