Authorities in Ocean County say a mother has been arrested for killing her two children, ages 1 and 3.

Naomi Elkins of Lakewood, NJ, Charged

27-year-old Naomi Elkins of Lakewood has been charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Just before 5:00 Tuesday afternoon, June 25th, officers with the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to a home on Shenandoah Drive for a report of two children in cardiac arrest.

Responding officers found Hatzolah Medical Services attempting to render lifesaving aid to the children, ages one and three, however they were unsuccessful and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by several law enforcement agencies revealed that both victims were Elkins’ children.

Authorities say the one year-old victim had been stabbed and that both children had been drowned.

Continuing investigation revealed that Elkins was responsible for the deaths of both of her children.

Elkins was taken into custody at the scene without incident and is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
