Two people were arrested following a traffic stop in Millville, where multiple gunshots were allegedly fired at police during a foot pursuit.

42-year-old James Zigler III of Millville is facing two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, resisting, obstruction, and related weapons charges. 39-year-old Frances Martin, also of Millville, was charged with obstruction.

Traffic Stop Turns Dangerous

According to WCAU-TV, Martin, who was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, was stopped by police at 4th and Sassafras in Millville around 6:45 Tuesday evening. After giving police a fake name, Zigler, who was a passenger, got out of the vehicle and ran.

The station reported that in an attempt to evade arrest, police claimed that Zigler turned as he was headed southbound on 6th Street and fired four shots at the officers who were chasing him.

Those officers, identified as state troopers by NJ.com, lost track of Zigler when they took cover; however, he was later found at a home on Wheaton Avenue.

Authorities executed a search warrant at that home and a weapon was reportedly recovered.
