Fact: Everyone in South Jersey has that one restaurant they swear is the best. And chances are, you know it, too.

You know, the place they tell out-of-towners they have to try. It's where they've "never had a bad meal." It's the one your parents rave about, and their parents did, too.

And if you ask a dozen or so locals to name the most iconic restaurants in South Jersey, you're going to get at least a dozen completely different answers.

And that's what's so cool about living in this part of the state.

What Makes a South Jersey Restaurant Legendary

Sure, South Jersey is packed with great places to eat, but only a small handful earn legendary status.

Some of those places are diners that have been feeding people for decades. Some are high-end restaurants that people plan entire nights around. Others are neighborhood spots where people will drive an hour just to have a sandwich.

Narrowing it Down to Eleven

We decided to tackle a big project: narrowing that list down to the eleven most legendary restaurants in South Jersey. It was easy to make a long list, much harder to get it down to eleven.

Why This List Isn't About Ranking

For this list, the goal wasn't to rank restaurants or argue about which one is "the best." That debate will never end. This list is more about showcasing the establishments that have stood the test of time while serving generations of hungry South Jersey locals.
