Franklin Township, N.J. — A 23-year-old firefighter who was critically injured while responding to a fire call last month has died from his injuries, his department announced Friday.

Robert "Bobby" Reider passed away at approximately 4:30 Friday morning at Cooper University Hospital, where he had been since June 27th.

Crash While Answering a Call

According to the Malaga Fire Department in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, on the morning of June 27th, Reider was traveling northbound on Delsea Drive while responding to a fire call when his vehicle left the roadway.

Fellow firefighters responding to the original call diverted to the crash scene.

Crews had to extricate Reider from his vehicle before he was airlifted to Cooper Hospital with severe traumatic injuries.

Seven Years of Service

He completed Fire 1 at the Salem County Fire Academy in 2022 and was recognized with a certificate of completion.

Year after year, Bobby had exemplary attendance at calls, drills, and meetings. His heart and passion for community service was one of a kind.

The Franklin Township Police Department extended its condolences to Reider's family Thursday, saying he "lost his life volunteering his time to protect our community" and expressing its gratitude for his service.
