Egg Harbor Township, NJ Man Charged In Fatal Hit and Run
The Atlantic County, New Jersey Prosecutor’s Office
(ACPO) has confirmed that Shawn P. Duffy, 39, from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey has been charged with:
- second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash.
- second-degree vehicular homicide.
ACPO has released the following update:
On February 6, 2024, at approximately 6:34 p.m., Duffy was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Steelmanville Road in Egg Harbor Township. Duffy's vehicle allegedly struck a bicyclist and fled the scene. The bicyclist, Neil G. Burman, 68, from Egg Harbor Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene because of the injuries he sustained. Subsequent investigation revealed Duffy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the motor vehicle crash, according to the ACPO.
This fatal crash was a collaborative, joint investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
The ACPO always reminds the public that “these charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
