Abandoned Car Seat, Sippy Cup Found in NJ Wawa Parking Lot — What Happened?
Ever see something that not only catches your eye, but impacts the rest of your day?
I had that experience just a few weeks ago at a Wawa here in New Jersey.
First things first - Wawa, itself, didn't have anything to do with this. But what I found in one of their parking lots was rather disturbing.
A Normal Day Turns Mysterious
It was either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when I stopped at a Wawa to grab something to eat. Now, we all know what a Wawa parking lot is usually like -- it's nothing short of insane. Since this particular store has a huge parking lot, especially behind the building, that's where I decided to park.
When I did, one thing caught my eye, which led to another, which led to me trying to figure out this mystery that I started to develop.
A Sippy Cup on the Ground
When I parked, I noticed a bright pink thing sitting on one of the concrete islands. That turned out to be the top of a kid's sippy cup.
No big deal -- kids drop stuff all the time.
But then I saw the cup itself in the middle of a parking spot.
Again, kids drop stuff, and things certainly fall out of cars.
Then Things Got a Little Darker
But then I saw this -- an abandoned car seat just sitting there.
Suddenly, at least in my own mind, this took a much darker turn. I mean, car seats just don't accidentally fall out of cars.
Something Didn’t Feel Right
Sure, parents move car seats all the time, but this didn't seem right. Something felt off.
Granted, I didn't witness anything involving what led up to these things being left behind, but it seemed rather odd. If you have a car seat in your car and suddenly you don't, chances are, you'd quickly realize that, wouldn't you?
Having a daughter who, not too long ago, transitioned from needing a car seat to not, I know those things aren't cheap and this one looked like it was in really good shape.
For the record, I did spend a few minutes looking around to see if anyone looked suspicious (sometimes that's hard to do in a convenience store parking lot), or if, God forbid, a young kid was wandering around. I didn't see anything. After I sat in my car for a few minutes, no one even drove by to retrieve this stuff.
Inside the store, no one seemed concerned. I didn't see anyone urgently talking to any employees or anything.
A Personal Reflection — and Regret?
So what did I do? Honestly... nothing.
That was one of those moments where I debated whether or not I should have called the police or told someone, just in case something bad had happened. But I didn't.
Turns out, I never heard of anything sinister happening there, so I guess it's OK to chalk it up to a parent who was in a rush or something.
So, what would you have done if you saw what I saw?
