Marty Small has likely been the most supportive Mayor for the Atlantic City Police Department in history.

The effective, demonstrated leadership by Small has been instrumental in restoring more than 50 officers to the ranks of the Atlantic City Police Department.

The ranks of the Atlantic City Police Department had plummeted below 250 officers. To put this in perspective, the Atlantic City Police Department had more than 400 police officers prior to the advent of casino gaming.

The cuts made by former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie were a disgraceful and dangerous.

Small has also made regular, strategic promotions that have been great for departmental morale — as officers can see that upward mobility is readily available within the Atlantic City Police Department.

The Disposition Of This Case According To The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office

On Monday, July 20, 2026, Christopher Davis, 37, of Atlantic City, NJ pleaded guilty before the Honorable Dorothy Garrabrant, J.S.C. to second-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Under the terms of his guilty plea, Davis is expected to be sentenced to four years in New Jersey State Prison subject to the No Early Release Act, where he has to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. Once released, he will be subject to three years of parole supervision, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
