13-year-old Boy, Mother Rescued From Atlantic City Ocean
Atlantic City, N.J. — Atlantic City police and firefighters rescued a 13-year-old boy and his mother from the ocean near Iowa Avenue last month, a rescue the department is just now sharing publicly.
The ACPD said the incident happened June 17th.
Mother and Son Found in Distress Offshore
Officers responding to reports of swimmers in distress located the boy approximately 200 yards offshore and his mother approximately 100 yards offshore.
Atlantic City Fire Department crews arrived with a personal watercraft and brought both swimmers safely to shore.
Police and Firefighters Coordinate Rescue
Sgt. Nicholas Berardis coordinated the rescue and ensured responding personnel had the necessary equipment.
Eight ACPD officers were involved, including Lt. James Herbert, Sgt. Berardis, Sgt. Ermindo Marsini, Ofc. Riley Flynn, Ofc. Kyle Riordan, Ofc. Nicholas Timek, Ofc. Tyler Dailey, and Ofc. Kevin Puca.
Four ACFD firefighters assisted: Cole Culleny, Andrew Kyle, Frank Walsh, and Dominic Gitto.
Officials Urge Beachgoers to Swim at Guarded Beaches
Authorities are reminding beachgoers to swim only at guarded beaches during designated lifeguard hours. Ocean conditions can change without warning, and rip currents, strong waves, and shifting tides can quickly put even strong swimmers in danger.
