Atlantic City, NJ Police First Comments On Fatal Incident
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, there was a serious police incident in Atlantic City, New Jersey … whereby two Atlantic City police officers were shot … and, The suspect is now dead as a result.
First Public Statement From The Atlantic City Police Department
Multiple officers from the Atlantic City Police Department were removed from the scene for medical treatment and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. One officer sustained life-threatening injuries; the other officers' injuries are non-life-threatening. As the safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities, please know there is no active or ongoing threat to the public, said the Atlantic City Police Department.

The scene of the incident has been secured by law enforcement Route 40, Arctic Ave, Atlantic Ave, and Pacific Ave between Brighton Avenue and Ohio Avenue are extremely congested, said the Atlantic City Police Department.

“This incident is being investigated by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, and I cannot comment on the facts or circumstances of that investigation. The Office of the Attorney General will provide updates on the status of their investigation at an appropriate time,” said Atlantic City Spokesman Matt Duffy.

The fine men and women in blue of the Atlantic City Police Department put their lives on the line every day to protect our community, and I am grateful for their courage. We truly have the best police department in the world. My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families, and the entire Atlantic City Police Department during this difficult time. We are hopeful for their full and speedy recovery. Any additional information regarding this incident will be released by the Atlantic City Police Department or the New Jersey Office of Attorney General, said Mayor Small.
