Atlantic Ave. Paving Contract Awarded

One of the most notoriously bad roads in the World's Play Ground is one step closer to getting a fresh coat of paint.

Or, in this case, asphalt.

The City of Atlantic City says during last week's city council meeting, a contract was awarded to South State, Inc., to begin the (very) long-anticipated paving and revitalization project along Atlantic Avenue.

The news many have been waiting for: Work is scheduled to begin next month.

Goodbye Potholes

Planned improvements include paving a roughly 1.5-mile stretch of Atlantic Avenue from Tennessee to Albany Avenues, traffic signal synchronization (we can all dream of the day when we won't have to... stop... at... every... single... red... light... on... Atlantic... Avenue...), the installation of surveillance cameras, upgraded crosswalks, ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps, and new street lights.

Mayor Small Speaks

Mayor Marty Small, Sr., said in a statement that paving Atlantic Avenue was something that "taxpayers have wanted and needed," and he thanked Gov. Murphy's former Chief-of-Staff Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, Congressman Jeff Van Drew, and NJDOT Commissioner Fran O'Connor for their work on this project.

Beyond the roadway itself, the Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project will feature enhancements to support local economic development, including new trees and landscaping, and better signs.
