61-year-old bicyclist killed on Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Twp., NJ
A man on a bicycle was killed on the Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township Friday night.
Arthur Herz of Mays Landing, NJ, Killed
The Hamilton Township Police Department says the accident happened around 8:20 at mile marker 45.5, which is just west of Route 50.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 21-year-old Luca Scotto of Blackwood, was traveling westbound on the Pike in the inside lane.
Arthur Herz of Mays Landing entered the westbound lanes on a bicycle and made impact with the Jeep.
Police say Herz was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Scotto sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-Mainland in Pomona for further evaluation. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The Black Horse Pike was closed for about four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare paramedics, Laureldale Fire Department, the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted officers at the scene.
