3 AM traffic stop in Wildwood Crest, NJ, sends shoobie to jail
A traffic stop in the middle of the night in Cape May County ended with a Philadelphia man sitting in prison on multiple drug-related charges.
According to the Wildwood Crest Police Department, just after 3:00 on the morning of Friday, August 16th, one of their officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Denver Road and Atlantic Avenue.
During the stop, the officer developed reasonable suspicion that the vehicle contained evidence of criminal activity and deployed a K9 to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle.
Authorities say the K9, "provided a positive indication to the presence of narcotic odor within the vehicle and a search was conducted" and distribution amounts of suspected cocaine, Xanax, and ecstasy were allegedly found along with distribution-related paraphernalia and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.
As a result, 38-year-old Matthew Monroe of Philadelphia was charged with the following:
- 3 counts of second-degree possession CDS with intent to distribute within 500 ft. of a public park
- 3 counts of third-degree possession of CDS with intent to distribute
- 3 counts of third-degree possession of CDS
- Third-degree money laundering
- Fourth-degree possession of CDS distribution paraphernalia
- Possession of CDS paraphernalia (a disorderly persons offense)
- Several traffic offenses
Monroe was being held in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
