Why This South Jersey Football Powerhouse Is Renaming Its Field

For 65 years, Mainland Regional High School has been serving the families who live in Somers Point, Linwood, and Northfield.  Rated one of the best educational institutions in South Jersey, Mainland Regional has received the award for National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

For decades, the community has come out to support High School Football at Mainalnd Regional. The "Mustang Corral" has seen some great football with the team winning the 2023 New Jersey State football championship along with South Jersey Group Sectional Championships in 1980, 1996, 1997, and 2002 plus a South Jersey Group III Title in 1995.
Starting with the 2025 High School Football season, Mainland Regional will be renaming their field in honor of one of the school's biggest supporters of athletics over the years.

Mainland Regional Ties To Historic South Jersey Business

The new name for the Manland Regional Football Field will be The Mustang Corral at Jack Thomas Memorial Field. A special pre-game ceremony to dedicate the field on Friday, September 12, 2025 with the Thomas Family.

The Thomas Family first opened Charlie's Bar in Somers Point over 80 years ago, and since they moved into their current location on Shore Road in 1953, this has been one of the most popular restaurants in the area.

Here's a statement from Mainland Regional High School about renaming the field t honor Jack Thomas:

"For more than three decades, Jack Thomas has exemplified the spirit of generosity and volunteerism that defines Mainland Regional High School. Mr. Thomas’s influence extends far beyond the sidelines. His contributions include substantial financial support for the renovation of the school’s athletic facilities, regular sponsorship of team equipment and uniforms, and the establishment of scholarships for student-athletes.

Effective immediately, the Mainland Regional High School football field will be officially known as The Mustang Corral at Jack Thomas Memorial Field. This honor reflects the school’s deep appreciation for Mr. Thomas’s selfless service and celebrates his enduring influence on the lives of students, staff, and community."

The support of the local community is essential for the success of everyone in South Jersey. The small business owners are enabled to support causes like High School Athletics because of the people who live in that community proactively support those businesses. Charlie's Bar is beloved for their wings, support of the community, and are part of the fabric of Somers Point.
