This South Jersey Shore town is the best says Eagles Super Bowl champion
The meteorologists can call it an Arctic Blast, but the rest of us are tired of the "why" behind the brutal winter. After the last few weeks, everyone is looking forward to the summer months, and no more frozen tundra that is everywhere you go in New Jersey.
When you close your eyes and think about the summertime at the Jersey Shore, we all think about our favorite Coastal Communities to visit. From Asbury Park to Cape May, millions of visitors come to The New Jersey Shore from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend.
Those visitors include superstar athletes and Philadelphia Sports Legends. From Jason Kelce and Kyle Schwarber in Sea Isle City, to Jalen Brunson and Joel Embiid in Margate, numerous athletes and celebrities visit South Jersey during the summer months.
At Super Bowl 60 Media Row in San Francisco, Mike Gill spoke to an Eagles Champion about South Jersey
Every February, 973 ESPN South Jersey and The Sports Bash with Mike Gill travel to Super Bowl Media Row to speak to some of the biggest names in sports. This year, the team descended on San Francisco, and got the opportunity to talk with guests like Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, former Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb, and 2005 NFL MVP Award Winner Shaun Alexander.
Mike Gill had the opportunity to catch up with Eagles Super Bowl Champions Cooper Dejean and Reed Blankenship in San Francisco. When it was revealed that Blankenship has never visited the Jersey Shore, DeJean said he needed to use South Jersey as part of his "recruitment" to keep Reed in Philadelphia.
That is when Mike Gill asked Cooper DeJean the most important question:
MG: So AC and Margate, or Sea Isle (City) and Avalon?
CJ: I'm more of a Sea Isle and Avalon guy.
MG: You hang out with (Jason) Kelce down there, right?
CJ: I have. Well, yeah, I mean, obviously, he hosts his (fundraiser in Sea Isle City).
DeJean was one of several current and former Eagles players who were guest bartenders at Kelce's Team 62 Fundraising event this past summer. The annual fundraiser, hosted at "The OD" in Sea Isle City, raises money for the Eagles Autism Foundation each summer.
But "Coop" was in multiple South Jersey Shore Towns last summer, so he is not obligated to choose Sea Isle City and Avalon as his favorites. Remember that DeJean is from a small town in Iowa: Odebolt has an estimated population of less than 1,000 residents, so it would make sense that a small coastal community like Sea Isle City would appeal to him more than a busier shore town like Atlantic City.
I still have some restaurant recommendations for the next time Cooper DeJean visits Sea Isle City, and hopefully he does use the South Jersey Shore Towns as part of his recruiting pitch to his buddy, Reed Blankenship:
