What You Need To Know: Phillies Opening Day Postponed
For the second straight Major League Baseball season, the Philadelphia Phillies Home Opener has been impacted by an ominous weather forecast.
In 2023, the Phillies's Home Opener on April 6th was rescheduled to April 7th due to weather forecasters projecting bad weather in the Philadelphia area. The decision was widely ridiculed because there was some nice weather that day. The game start time could have just been moved instead of postponing the game last year.

Now in 2024, the Phillies have made the same decision to move their Opening Day Game against the Atlanta Braves from Thursday to Friday. Here is the statement from Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck in Wednesday Afternoon's Press Release:
“Due to the anticipated rain on Thursday, we have elected to move our home opener with the Braves to Friday....This decision was made after consultation with Major League Baseball and various weather services. The open date on Friday gives us the ability to reschedule the game.”
All tickets and parking for the Thursday, March 28th game will be valid and admissible for the rescheduled Home Opener on March 29th. In the Phillies Press Release, they stated that all gates will be open for fans to enter the ballpark at 12:35 pm.
All fans who attend the Phillies' Home Opener on Friday will be given a Phillies Scarf and first pitch is scheduled for 3:05 pm. The scheduled Opening Day Starting Pitcher for the Phillies is Zack Wheeler. He is the first Phillies pitcher to start opening day instead of Aaron Nola since 2017.
