During the Summer months, many South Jersey towns have restrictions from bringing "Man's Best Friend" onto the beach and boardwalk. Many dog owners have expressed frustrations over the years with these rules that impact walking their beloved pets.

There are approximately 65.1 Million Households in the United States that own at least one dog.  According to World Population Review, 47.4 percent of New Jersey Households are dog owners while in Pennsylvania, 60.6% of Households are dog owners.

One South Jersey town has heard complaints from locals and visitors who are dog owners about these restrictions and have created a solution. A new Dog Park is opening ahead of the 2024 Summer Season that both dogs and their owners can enjoy.

What South Jersey Town Is Opening a New Dog Park

Thanks to funding from the Cape May County Open Spaces Board, a new Dog Park will be opening in Sea Isle City. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grand Opening will be on Saturday, May 4th at 3 pm.

The Sea Isle City Dog Park is located at 7th Street and Landis Avenue featuring two fenced-in areas for both large and small dogs to run around freely. The new Dog Park also has playground "fixtures" just for dogs along with a water station to keep them hydrated along with shaded pavilions and benches for the dog owners.

This Saturday's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is the final event as part of Sea Isle City's Community Day. Here is the list of events that are scheduled for May 4th leading up to the Grand Opening of the Dog Park:

*Free Document Shredding starting 9 AM at the Community Lodge parking lot on JFK Boulevard, adjacent to the Sea Isle City Welcome Center.
*Municipal Bicycle Auction starts at 10:15 AM in the Community Lodge parking lot.
*“Meet & Greet” inside the SIC Community Lodge from 10 AM to Noon where the public can speak with City and County officials as well as representatives from local civic organizations. Families are invited to bring their kids to enjoy face painters and free gifts.
*There will be an Awards Ceremony at 11:30 AM at the Community Lodge, where stand-out members of the community will be honored.
*There will be an Unveiling Ceremony projected to start at 12:15 PM on the corner of JFK Boulevard and Park Road. There will be Two Historical Plaques honoring past Sea Isle City Mayor William Haffert, one being placed on the Promenade at 31st Street.
*The Official Groundbreaking Ceremony at 1:30 PM for Sea Isle City’s Future Community Center located at 4501 Park Road.

The public is invited out for Sea Isle City's Community Day and the Dog Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  The new Dog Park will be a great option for dog owners who want to let their dogs get some fresh air and exercise.

The location of the new Dog Park is at 7th Street and Landis Avenue, next to the recently laid out parking lots for beachgoers in Sea Isle City. As someone who used to live in the Shore Town, I remember riding my bike past those empty lots imagining what could be built there.

Here are some other memories you may remember being in Sea Isle City from years past that are no longer standing:

Remember These Places That Use To Be In Sea Isle City, New Jersey

Thanks in part to the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Sea Isle City has seen many changes over the years. Whether you grew up in South Jersey or vacationed multiple summers in Sea Isle City, you may remember some of these buildings and businesses that no longer exist. Which ones below do you remember most? (Special Thank you to the Sea Isle Historical Museum for helping me get these pictures and information)
