More Delays For New Cannabis Store In South Jersey

In 2023, Cannabis sales crossed the $800 million mark in New Jersey.  With over 200 dispensaries licensed in New Jersey, Cannabis has become one of the fastest-growing industries in the state.

At the start of 2024, there was only one full-service Cannabis Retail Store in Cape May County. Some have accused the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission of being slow in its approval process for new licenses.

One South Jersey business is still waiting for the final approval of its license and has been forced to push back their grand opening again. The company has multiple Cannabis Retail Outlets in other states, and the local Cape May County Municipality gave clearance months ago for the Retail Outlet to open.

Where Is The New Cannabis Dispensary Waiting To Open In South Jersey?

Back in January, the Middle Township Planning Board granted a Site Plan Waiver for a new Cannabis Retail Store.  The Cannabis Retailer INSA has locations in Five states and the plan for Middle Township INSA would be their first dispensary in New Jersey.

The new Cannabis Retail Store location is at the corner of Route 9 and Avalon Boulevard in the Swainton section of Middle Township.  Located off Garden State Parkway Exit 13, this is where a Wawa was open almost 20 years ago and most recently there was a Dermatology Center on-site.

At the most recent Middle Township Committee meeting, it was revealed that the Indoor work for the new Dispencery is almost complete and the property needs new signage put up on the exterior.

The next New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission meeting is scheduled for December 12th and INSA Middle Township hopes to have their final license approval so they can begin operating the retail outlet.

NJ Biz reports that over 2,500 applicants have made submissions for licenses to the NJ CRC and approximately 8 percent receive Cannabis Operating Licenses. But Middle Township INSA is on track to be awarded its final license.
