Almost two years after an agreement was first announced, one of South Jersey's premiere Hospitals will be joining a new Health System.

On Tuesday, a New Jersey Superior Court approved the merger of Cape May County's only hospital with the Cooper University Health System. This was the final approval needed before the two Medical Organizations became one entity.

Since 1950, the primary hospital in Cape May County has been located at the corner of Stone Harbor Boulevard and Route 9 in Cape May Court House. Formerly known as Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, the hospital named Cape Regional Medical Center for almost two decades.

The Cape Regional Health System currently manages three Urgent Care Centers and has multiple Health Professional Affiliations that Cooper University Health System will now absorb. Cape Regional and Cooper already had a Professional relationship over the years before the two entities decided to merge.

When will the two South Jersey Hospitals complete their merger?

Starting July 1st, the hospital in Cape May Court House will be renamed Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional. This merger gives the Cape May County Hospital access to more Health Care Resources and an affiliation with one of the top Medical Organizations in the state of New Jersey.

The Hospital located in Cape May Court House has been working towards improving its reputation over the last couple of decades. The previous iteration of the hospital, known as Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, was Infamous with locals for the quality of medical care.

When the hospital became Cape Regional, extensive steps were made to improve the facilities and medical personnel.  In previous years, Cape Regional Medical Center was affiliated with the University of Penn Medicine before the current Professional partnership with Cooper. Cooper University Health Care merging with Cape Regional will offer Cape May County residents and seasonal vacationers a new tier of quality Medical Care that will be offered to the region.
