A Millville Police investigation into a robbery led to a dangerous attempt by the suspect to flee Wednesday morning. A Wawa patron getting gas was injured, and a police officer was dragged a short distance by a vehicle before a crash ended the police pursuit.

Millville Police Were Investigating a Robbery

A Millville Police investigation into an earlier robbery led to a chaotic scene on Wednesday when the suspect fled from police.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says Wednesday, Feb 28 at about 9:08 am Millville Police were looking into a robbery that had happened previously in Vineland when the suspect in that crime, Jacob D. Griffiths, 40, of Bridgeton, fled from police with a female passenger in his vehicle.

Millville Police Stopped High-Speed Chase

Authorities say Millville Police discontinued their pursuit of the suspect when he began driving at a high speed and ran a stop sign. A short time later police found the suspect's vehicle in the Dorchester Wawa parking lot on Rt. 47.

Suspect Dragged a Police Officer With His Vehicle in Wawa Parking Lot

When Millville Police approached Griffiths' vehicle at the Wawa, the suspect tried to drive away and dragged an officer a short distance across the parking lot. Then, as Griffiths fled the parking lot, he hit a patron standing near the gas pumps before driving off.

The Police Chase Ended With a Crash, Hospitalizations

Millville Police again pursued Griffiths' vehicle, until he was involved in a crash at the intersection of Rt. 49 and Union Road in Maurice River Township.

A Millville Police officer, the Wawa patron, the suspect and his passenger, and people in the vehicle he hit in the Rt. 49 crash were all taken to Inspira Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.
