Good old-fashioned police work, inter-agency cooperation, and technology have allowed Ventnor Police to make an arrest in a case of a jewelry theft from a local residence in early August.

The story began at a local home on the beach block at Vassar Square Avenue on August 10.

Police were called to the home when a resident noticed jewelry was missing from the home.

Officer Raymond Aiuto of the Ventnor Police Department conducted an investigation and discovered evidence that the home had been broken into.

These days, there seem to be cameras recording everything and everybody, and cameras played a big part in this case.

Officer Aiuto was able to use footage from some of these cameras to create a description of a suspect in the break-in.

Additionally, Officer Aiuto enlisted the assistance of the Atlantic City Police Department's surveillance center where they were able to track the suspect and get cleaner pictures of the person involved.

This information allowed police to create a more concise description of the suspect and based on his clothing, they were able to identify Saleem E. Ali, a 64-year-old Atlantic City man as the person they believe, broke into the home in Ventnor.

Police charged the man with Burglary and Theft and he was released with a summons to appear in court.

Saleem E. Ali has already been on the Atlantic City Police Department's radar for an incident that occurred earlier in the day.

Police in Atlantic City say they suspect Ali approached people at the 100 block of South Dover Ave and a while later came back and and stole items from that home.

Atlantic City Police determined it was Ali who burglarized that home, and he was picked up by police a short time later.

At that time, it was determined that Ali had several outstanding warrants.

Ventnor Police Chief Joseph Fussner praised his officer for the work and effort he put into working the case.
His efforts demonstrate the lengths our officers are willing to take in solving crimes committed in our town.
