Atlantic County Prepares to Auction Meadowview Nursing Center
Atlantic County is preparing to hold a public auction of the Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 235 Dolphin Avenue, Northfield. It was decided in 2025 that the cost of running a county-owned nursing home was no longer feasible.
As a result, the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution in December 2025 to proceed with the sale of Meadowview.
Meeting Being Held to Prepare for Auction of the Property
In preparation for a public auction of Atlantic County’s Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the county held a public hearing on June 8th to provide an overview of the auction process, a description of the facility, and the criteria for interested bidders.
A second hearing is set for Wednesday, June 24, at 4 pm at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology, 5080 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing.
The hearing will also provide opportunities for public comment.
Atlantic County Sets a $23.5 MIlliion Minimun Bid for Meadowview
An auction will be conducted in late September, 90 days after the second public hearing, with a minimum bid of $23.5 million.
There is also a set of stipulations set by the county that any successful bidder must agree to. These include keeping all the existing non-administrative staff on as employees for a period of two years and the same or higher salary.
All residents must also be allowed to remain in the facility for as long as they want.
“No resident will be displaced. They may remain as long as they wish, including the 30 veterans in our Veterans Wing,” stated Levinson.
“We are also requiring the successful bidder to provide the employees up to two years employment with the same or better compensation as they now have. The protection of our residents and staff is a priority.”
The History of Meadowview
Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center opened its doors in the early 1970s, offering recovery, long-term care, and hospice services.
A 30-bed dedicated Veterans Wing opened in 2018, later signing a five-year contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to serve military veterans.
Facing staffing struggles and revenue losses since the COVID-19 pandemic, Atlantic County proposed transferring the facility to the state as a fourth New Jersey Veterans Home. But the state declined this proposal in March 2025.
Today, Meadowview is one of only three remaining county-owned and operated facilities in the state, out of 21 originally.
Citing millions of dollars in annual operating losses and taxpayer strain, Atlantic County officials started the formal auction and privatization process for the facility this year.
