Popular South Jersey Dive Bar is Closing Abruptly This Week
Jester's Dive Bar in Rio Grande confirmed the week's biggest rumor on Monday by posting a Facebook message saying they will close for good, rather abruptly, this Saturday, March 14th.
Yeah… we heard the rumors. And yeah… we ignored them. But now it’s real: after 4 incredible years, Jester’s is closing. Come say goodbye this week and join us Saturday, March 14th, for The Last Dance with Misguided and DJ Brother Mike. Let’s go out laughing, dancing, and maybe crying a little.
Even before this Saturday's closing night, the caption on the bar's Google information already says, "permanently closed".
In April 2023, owners Bill and Megan Bumbernick opened Jester's after buying the old Rio Station and deciding to renovate it rather than tear it down.
Now, to the surprise of many fans and regulars at Jester's, they have made the decision to close.
Jester's Dive Bar is Closing
Sources tell me that the sale isn't quite as abrupt as it may seem.
The Bumbernicks, who own The Surfing Pig and The Swine Bar in North Wildwood, have been in negotiations to sell Jester's Dive Bar, and now seems to be a good time to close in anticipation of that sale.
No other information about the future of the Route 9 establishment is being released at this time.
Jester's Fans Mourn the Closing
Scores of comments on the closing announcement for Jester's Dive Bar are saying how much they will miss it, with fans of the Jester's menu, its live music, and the bar's role in the local social scene saying it is a sad ending.
I'm so bummed! Jester's Dive Bar was my home away from home. I adore the staff. And yes, the live entertainment.... so many great performers...
Sad to see this. NO CLUE was proud to have the opportunity to play Jester's Dive Bar a few times! Amazing staff!
