Six Flags Great Adventure has finally given us the name and some details about its "Project Purple" coaster, set to replace Kingda Ka, and it looks absolutely awesome!

Great Adventure Releases Details, Name of Record-Breaking New Coaster

On Tuesday, the Jackson Township theme park unveiled its forthcoming "Bakunawa" coaster that’s set to debut in spring 2027.

The name baa·koo·naa·wuh was inspired by the “legendary sea serpent of Philippine mythology".

According to Six Flags, the thrilling new ride will be the “world’s tallest and fastest spinning launch coaster,” reaching speeds of 100 mph and a height of 382 feet.

The impressive coaster will also join an “elite class of giga coasters” as it will rank among the top five tallest roller coasters in the world,” per the release.

Great Adventure is promising a two-minute, 17-second ride that ensures “no two experiences are exactly alike.”

New Coaster Will Break 6 Records

This is where this conversation gets really sick, in the coolest form of the word. Bakunawa will set six new coaster records when it debuts. Let's count them down.

1- World’s fastest inversion

2- World’s fastest spinning coaster at 100 miles per hour

3- World’s longest stall inversion

4- World’s first upside-down launch

5- World’s tallest spinning coaster

6- World’s first floorless spinning coaster

What the Ride Entails

Here's a play-by -play account of what a ride on Bakunawa will be like, according to the release from Great Adventure. Below, see a virtual POV video of the new coaster.

The journey starts with the first linear synchronous motor launch that brings riders from 0 to 60 mph. As the train ascends above the Boardwalk, riders will experience their second launch about halfway through, which will be the world’s first upside-down launch that increases the speed from 60 to 80 mph.

After the third and final launch brings guests to the max speed of 100 mph, the ride gets even more thrilling: “At the top of the massive tower, the train enters a spiral into a 180-degree bank, giving riders unprecedented views of Six Flags Great Adventure below and endless sky above.”
